Introducing the new PASCOM team for 2022

PASCOM has been supported by many members of the College over the years. All have worked to enhance the project and develop it from the early paper based system through to the current web based clinical audit system.  The current working party includes members from across Podiatry.  An up-to-date list of working party members will be maintained at the following link https://www.pascom-10.com/pascom-10-working-party 

Our new team of volunteers includes:

Dr Helen Branthwaite

MSK Project Lead. Royal College of Podiatry.  Course Leader, Clinical Biomechanics Staffordshire University

Dr Helen Branthwaite is the MSK project lead for the Royal College of Podiatry. She is an MSK practitioner in the private sector as well as Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University, course leader MSc Clinical Biomechanics. Helen’s research expertise looks at the effects of everyday footwear on function and fit and she has a specialist interest in falls prevention. Measuring MSK outcomes is at the centre of progressing our understanding of presenting podiatric conditions and is vital for patient care and professional development. The MSK – short form has been developed within PASCOM-10 as part of the MSK project and will capture MSK events occurring in podiatric practice.

Andrew Coutts

Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery, Derbyshire Community Health Services.

Simon Fay

Consultant Podiatric Surgeon, Northumbria Healthcare and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trusts 

Simon Fay studied Podiatry at Salford. Graduating in 1987, He then followed a progression to specialist Podiatric surgical training in East Anglia, achieving a fellowship in Podiatric surgery in 1996 and completion of specialist surgical training in 2001.  He is an annotated Podiatric surgeon by the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC). Completed MSc in Podiatric surgery ( 2015 ) and is an Independent non medical Prescriber.  Mr Fay assisted the development the NHS podiatric surgery services in Suffolk between 1996 and 2005 before spending 2 years in Canada working clinically within the realm of Musculo-skeletal Podiatry and minor surgery. He provided mentorship for surgical trainees and registrars whilst in East Anglia.  Mr Fay was appointed as a Consultant Podiatric surgeon to Northumbria Healthcare and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation trusts in 2011, after holding Consultant Podiatric surgeon posts in the West midlands and East Kent.

Matthew Fitzpatrick

Honorary Consultant Podiatrist.  Visiting Lecturer, School of Health Sciences, University of Southampton and Adjunct Clinical Professor, School of Clinical Sciences, Queensland University of Technology. 

I have the privilege of being the Chair of the PASCOM-10 Committee. Along with my colleagues on the committee we strive to navigate the opportunities the data we gather about podiatric practice is used to help enhance our knowledge and learning about the profession. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Podiatry and Faculty in Glasgow and was the past Chair of Council of the Royal College of Podiatry. I hold an Honorary Consultant post in London as well as being a Visiting Lecturer, School of Health Sciences, University of Southampton and Adjunct Clinical Professor, School of Clinical Sciences, Queensland University of Technology. 

Damian Holdcroft

Extended Scope Podiatrist, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

I have been a member of the PASCOM-10 working party since 2000. And I am a PASCOM-10 webmaster.  I work full time as an Extended Scope Podiatrist for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.  I work independently and as part of the hospital based Trauma & Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Team.  I am an Independent non-medical prescriber.  My day to day role is managing complex foot and ankle pain and deformity.  Once a week I undertake a Fluoroscopic guided injection list in the Imaging Department.  I work in theatre once week as part of the surgical team, for elective foot and ankle surgery.  I manage all the post-operative foot and ankle patients.  I have an active role in teaching both AHP’s and Medics.

Anthony Joyce

Head of Service for Podiatry and Physiotherapy in Somerset and Bank Consultant Podiatric Surgeon

Anthony spent the last 4 years of his surgical training at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, gaining fellowship in 2017 and CCPST in 2019. Following this, Anthony undertook a 12 Month contract within the Podiatric surgery team in Hereford, where he remains as a bank Consultant. Currently, Anthony works as Head of Service for Podiatry and Physiotherapy in Somerset.  Anthony has gained a vast amount of experience in all aspects of foot surgery, having a particular interest in high-risk foot/ limb salvage surgical techniques.  Being actively involved in research and publication, Anthony is actively involved in a number of professional improvement projects with the Royal College of Podiatry and Faculty of Podiatric Surgery. Anthony is also a guest lecturer for the Bath University pharmacy Master’s programme and regularly presents at National and International conferences.  In his spare time Anthony enjoys spending time with his young family, playing golf, mountain biking and coaching rugby.

Anthony Maher

Clinical Lead Consultant Podiatric Surgeon, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Anthony qualified as a podiatrist in 2000 and gained his Fellowship in 2008. He now works full time as a consultant in Nottinghamshire. Anthony has published peer reviewed articles on a broad range of subjects relevant to both podiatry and surgery. His particular interest is in evidence-based practice and the application of patient reported outcomes (PROMs) in the advancement of patient care. He has a keen interest in clinical audit and is a current member of both the PASCOM working party and a past member of the Podiatry Now editorial committee. Anthony has been involved with the PASCOM project since 2008 and In 2015 received the College of Podiatry Meritorious Award for his work on PASCOM.

Victoria North,

Podiatrist, private practitioner and chair of the Oxford Branch, Royal College of Podiatry.

Victoria qualified as a podiatrist in 2010 (Northampton) and gained her Master in Theory of Podiatric Medicine in 2021 from Huddersfield. After graduation Victoria worked in the NHS as a podiatrist, and a specialist podiatrist within a surgical unit for 2.5-3years, whilst building her own private practice (Zest Podiatry & Physio). During 2019 she returned to the NHS during covid for 6 months to assist Oxford NHS Health Trust. She is currently the secretary for the Oxford branch of the Royal college of Podiatry, and is working on publishing an article using MOXFQ and PASCOM.  Life before podiatry, Victoria worked in IT for 15 years. From helpdesk, training, teaching, to analyst and programmer, currently she assists Forgotten Feet with their website and is keen on anything IT.
